Nancy Derderian earned a BS degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa in 1976 and a Masters degree in Nursing from Marquette University in 1983. She was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Kentucky College of Public Health in 2005. Her nursing background is in the areas of critical care, open-heart surgery, and cardiac rehabilitation during which she had the opportunity to work with many elderly. She also has experience working in nursing facilities. A Professional Rescuer, she is CPR/AED Certified.
Nancy has lived in Lexington for over 22 years. She has personal understanding of the issues facing many elderly owed to her responsibilities for the last 10 years in managing the care of her mother, who is in the late stage of Alzheimer’s disease, and of her aunt, who has vascular dementia. Since 2004 she has done home assessments for Faith in Action: Elder Outreach, a volunteer program helping elderly to remain independently in their homes.
